Waiting

Tiny pink baby clothes are washed and folded in their drawer. Flowery headbands and little pacifiers reside next to them. In another place blankets and burp clothes await use.

We are waiting for a baby.

My belly is getting so big the baby dominates my thoughts. At night before I sleep – “This is so uncomfortable!” In the morning – “Imagine being able to roll over and get out of bed easily!”

Gabe and Jasmine notice throughout the day. “When can we hold the baby?” They ask.

The baby swing sits in the corner, waiting, and the car seat is upstairs by the rocking chair, all silent reminders that Something is Going to Happen.

It reminds me a lot of how waiting for Jesus return is – or should be. We don’t know the day or the hour, we can only wait. And anticipate. And plan.

We know it’s going to happen, we just don’t know when, and the challenge for me is to keep thinking about it like I think about the baby’s arrival – often.

“For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” Matthew 24:27

Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. Matthew 25:13
