Salmon Run

The salmon are running this week and so are we!

Monday evening we spent down in Homer at the lagoon trying to catch some fish. We caught crabs instead and then went to the boardwalk shops for some ice cream, and finally ended up down on the beach splashing in the tide pools.

While it can be a lot of work to get out and do things with three little children, their excitement is also contagious and that makes an outing so much more fun!

Tuesday night we headed up the road  to the Russian River two hours away. Became of some complications at the cabins where Andy works, he had to fix a problem and we got a late start. Around 1 am we stopped for the night and converted our mini van to a camper of sorts, folding the seats down into the floor and blowing up our air mattress. It actually worked quite well and I foresee camping in our van more often in the future.

We spent this morning and into the afternoon fishing in the beautiful river. Gorgeous Alaskan scenery surrounded us.

I ended up spending a lot of time in the van with the children once we figured out it was too hard to keep them from falling into the water, much less get any fishing done.

On our way back home we did our monthly shopping trip for groceries. We also had to get supplies for church, so the van was piled high with children, fishing and camping gear, and all the groceries.

We got home around 10 pm and quickly unloaded and got the children to bed.

It’s now 11:14 pm and Oscar is almost back to sleep. I must go get some sleep myself! I’ll be glad to spend some time at home after these last couple days.

P.S. Andy caught a salmon! We’ll definitely be grilling that up for supper tomorrow.

Below are a few pics of our evening in Homer, Alaska. We didn’t get any pictures of the Russian River fishing because I forgot my phone when we started the hike down to the water.
