Baby Fever

Baby fever is an as yet undiagnosed disease that comes on without warning or prior symptoms. It most often happens to women and is usually caused by catching sight of a newborn baby, but can also be caused  by the sight of tiny baby clothes, or even baby gear. (Note: seeing boxes of diapers on store shelves usually do not precipitate Baby Fever even though they have cute pictures on the boxes)

I myself have gotten Baby Fever on multiple occasions, usually when my current baby is 6-8 months old. Andy tries to cure me by reminding me of morning sickness, heartburn, contractions, colicky babies and no sleep, but if there is a tiny baby in sight, all warnings seem to go straight through my brain without registering  and I get baby fever.

There are people who are actually addicted to being pregnant, or so says Google. The feeling of growing a little life and feeling those little flutters and kicks (try wallops) is a very special, even fulfilling one, and I could see how women almost crave it, especially if they don’t get morning sickness.

They say pregnancy is like the man who built an airplane in his basement and then realized he had to get it out. That’s the point I’ve reached now, being 36 weeks along with our 3rd baby. This baby sure feels pretty big already and he’s still got to get out!

I thought I would be used to it by this point, but if anything I get more crazy about babies with each one we have! The closer my due date comes the more impatient I get to meet this little boy. There is something so new and special about a newborn, I don’t know if much else in this world that compares to holding your child for the very first time.

One thing is for sure, pregnancy reminds me a lot of waiting for Jesus to return to the earth. We don’t know the day or the hour, but we should be preparing and thinking about it often!

What about you? Have you ever caught the Baby Fever disease?
