The Joys of House Construction

January is gone and February has arrived, and with it lots of snow. We’ve noticed this other years too – November through January is often when we get extreme cold here in Alaska, then February and March are the snow months.

Andy’s been doing a lot of snow clearing with our little snow blower, up the lane and back again, then to the new house to clear things out there before he can work on it.

We thought we’d be moved into the basement by now, but there have been a lot of setbacks as well as things we didn’t foresee that need done. Building goes so slowly sometimes!

However it does seem like we’re getting to the point that we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Andy and a friend are spraying texture on the walls today, and once that dries it’ll be ready for primer and then paint!

The kitchen cupboards still need put in and the bathroom finished, but we could *possibly* move in next week.

Ah the suspense!

I won’t miss this waiting season. It can be stressful to not know from one week to the next if this is the week we’ll be moving or not.

Are any of you in the middle of building projects? Did they take longer than you expected?

  1. Yes indeed!!! My husband and I fix and flip homes and sometimes, they just seem to go on and on….
I know just what you mean. And for us in Upstate NY, the freezing cold months are really January and Feb. December and March are just snowy, but warmer. 🙂
