Our Thankful Tree

Last year we started some new family traditions around Thanksgiving and my favorite one is our Thankful Tree.

At the beginning of November the children and I make a cardboard or paper tree trunk and tape it to the wall. It’s nothing very fancy, cuz this mama ain’t very artsy, but it does the job.

We cut leaf shapes out of paper and take turns saying things we are thankful for while I write them on leaves with a sharpie. Each day we each think of something to write on a leaf and we tape it to our tree – Jesus, food to eat, each other, toys.

At my children’s ages the thankfulnesses are pretty basic and sometimes repeated, but as we do this each day until Thanksgiving, not only does our tree get more and more leafy with orange, red, yellow, and green, the attitude in our home also becomes one of gratefulness and thankfulness for all the blessings God has given us.

Do you have any Thanksgiving traditions that you look forward to each year?
