Now it came to pass in those days, that Tabitha, the wife of Andy, of the tribe of Stoltzfus, looked, and behold, it was day, and the snow fell hard upon the rooftop.
And when she beheld it, she mourned and wept, for her soul yearned for the song of the doves and the green of the vineyards.
She had scarcely sat upon the couch when her firstborn son approached and said unto her, “Feed me, I pray thee, a little morsel and it would suffice me. For I am weak with hunger.”
So Tabitha dried her tears and arose to prepare food for her little ones. But when she heard a knock upon the door, she was troubled, and fear fell upon her, for she had not dressed.
Therefore she ran with haste and hid herself among some garments, and her neighbor wearied himself with knocking, for she would not come to the door.
And the neighbor departed thence and went into his own country and to his house to prepare his own victuals.
Now when he had left the door, Tabitha arose and put on her garments before preparing food for her household. She took up the babe and fed her, for the child’s soul was vexed and she wept for a morsel to eat.
And beckoning to the others to hold their peace, she declared unto them that food would be set before them by the space of 20 minutes.
For she supposed that they understood her trials, but instead they strove with each other over which of them should be a help meet unto her.
And they all found favor in her sight so they sat upon the countertop to prepare the food.
Now it came to pass that Jasmine fell off the counter and she cried out with a loud voice. Tabitha gathered her up in her arms and spake kindly unto her until the maid ceased weeping.
Wherefore Tabitha thought it wise to eat with haste, and she lay the savory meat and the bread which she had prepared before them.
When the time of blessing drew nigh, they all looked on her steadfastly as she took the bread and blessed it and brake it. Then they all partook of the food and were filled, and thanked the Lord for his blessings unto them.
