The Thankful Tree

This year, for the first time, we made a Thankful Tree. I taped some cardboard up on the wall for the trunk, and we cut out leaves from the construction paper on hand. Green. Orange. Yellow. White.

Each of us would say something we were thankful for each evening, and I would write it on a leaf to be taped up onto the tree.

It is not a conventional looking tree. The colors are…unique, the shape of the leaves imaginative to be nice.

But the words. These blessing we’ve  been given. The things we thank God for. They are anything but ordinary.

Jesus dying for us.

Food

A warm house

A peaceful home in the midst of a chaotic time.

Love for each other.

A loving marriage.

Healthy children.

This year, because of the Thankful Tree,  my children have learned what it means to be thankful, and what blessings are. I have been learning too, because these things we’ve been naming, these blessings we’ve been given, supercede daily circumstances. Even on hard days there are things to be thankful for.

I am blessed.

Happy Thanksgiving!
