We Bought A Skid Loader In The Wrong State…

Ever since we moved up and realized how hard it is to clear land and remove stumps by hand it has been our dream to buy some equipment. Particularly a skid loader.

But sadly money doesn’t sprout from bushes so we’ve had to wait a while for our dream to become reality. Thankfully this dream actually did become reality a couple weeks ago when, after scouring the internet for months, Andy bought a skid loader. It’s just what we wanted. Hand controls, tracks instead of tires and a great price tag.

The only problem is that it’s located in Pennsylvania.

So Andy called up his dad who obligingly went and picked it up for us and hauled it back to the farm.

Then Andy began hearing back from the shipping companies he had talked to about getting it either hauled or barged up here.

“$6,000,” said one company.

“Aauugh!” We said.

“$10,000,” said another company.

“Arg! Forget that!” We said. “We’ll haul the thing up ourselves.”

And so Andy began searching the internet again, only this time for trucks and trailers. Last week we found a truck and found a trailer both close to the home farm there in PA. The cost of them both plus gas to haul it up here will probably come out close to the shipping cost, but at least we’ll have a truck and trailer to use or resell.

Now all we have to do is fly down to PA and drive everything 4,400 miles back up to Alaska.

Somehow it all got a lot more complicated than we originally thought it would be…

Our new skid loader all loaded up and ready to be hauled to the farm.

  1. What happened to Andy’s dad ? I thought Pete would love the adventure if you’d pay his ticket home 😁😍 I remember his bear hunt story involving a motercyle 😅
