Sick And Getting Homesick

We are starting to think that six weeks is a long time to be away from home…

It’s been great fun to see all the extended relatives and catch up with old friends, but with it also comes some consequences. One by one we’ve all caught some sort of virus, first a stomach bug and now I’ve been down with a 102 fever for the last three days.

We’ve been hunkered down this week, trying to recover, and with the slower pace we’ve been realizing how much we miss home!

Matt Snader’s must have been at our place last week because he sent us this picture of our cabin in the snow. I think he’s trying to make sure we don’t forget we belong in Alaska.

Last week we took our children to experience a livestock auction since we don’t have those in Alaska. While there, Gabe asked, “Who are those people with the big hats?” It startled me to realize that our children don’t know who Amish are!

We bought a pig there at the auction and butchered it into ham, bacon, sausage links, and ribs the next day. Even with luggage costs, it’s still cheaper to haul meat up with us than it is to buy a pig on the hoof up in Alaska.

It has been so good to see some of you while we are here and I hope everyone has a great New Year!
