How To Remove Cradle Cap

When I was a young girl I loved babies. As in, haunting-the-young mothers-in-church-begging-to hold-their-infant loved.
Babies are so cute and sweet and cuddly and best of all, they have a wonderful baby smell.
Little did I know…
As a mom I still love babies. I enjoy them a little less when they have colic, and I’ve found that between spit up and diapers, babies do not naturally smell good.
So I have gotten a good dose of reality, but I still love the baby smell. Only now I know it comes from baby wash and lotion.
I try to keep my children clean, but life happens and often they run around with sticky hands or dirty mouths, particularly Jasmine who seems to enjoy eating dirt.
But I hate cradle cap. I can’t leave it alone and I’m always picking at it, much to the annoyance of my babies. So for the sake of all of our sanity. I found way to remove it in one fell swoop.
Best of all, it’s easy and only takes one ingredient.
Coconut oil.
Just rub the oil into your baby’s head – this is harder if they have hair, but it still works – and let it sit for about half an hour to soften up. If your baby has a really bad case of cradle cap, apply the oil before a nap to allow more absorption.
Then you simply take a comb and comb it out! The oil softens the layer to the point that it can easily be scraped off.
Finally, wash the oil out of Baby’s hair with baby wash.
In our small church here in Alaska there is a nine year old girl who reminds me a lot of myself at that age. She always wants to hold Jasmine after church and now hangs around while I’m feeding Oscar so she can get first dibs on him as soon as he is done eating.
“I just love the way babies smell!” She confided in me one Sunday, stroking Oscar’s downy head.
I won’t burst her bubble. I’ll let her own babies do that.

  1. LOL! It is good of you to allow her to enjoy the baby smell while she can. I must admit that I enjoy baby smell, too. 🙂
