It can get expensive to keep a family in clean clothes, depending partly on what laundry detergent you buy. But I found that it really ate into my supplies budget even though I usually got the cheapest kind of laundry detergent in the store.
Then my sister in law gave me her recipe for homemade laundry detergent and I’ve been using that ever since. It is so simple and cheap!
We don’t like lots of scent in our clothes, so this recipe works great for us. If you’re someone who likes more smell, you could add some Tide powder or something.
Homemade Laundry Detergent
2 cups washing soda
2 cups Borax
2 bars Fels Naptha soap (other kinds of soap work as well)
Grate the soap finely and mix the ingredients in an old milk jug or jar.
Voila! Your detergent is finished. Keep a Tablespoon in the jar and add two quick scoops to a full load of laundry.
One batch lasts us well over a month.
