Water!!

We have such amazing relatives! Richard and Joseph Person spent three or four days at our place with the back hoe putting in the septic and getting water to the cabin with Dad, Silas, and Andy’s help.

Did you realize what you just read? We have WATER in the cabin!! What a huge step!

Then when Dad mentioned he was hoping to buy salmon somewhere to take home Joseph said he had extra and he could give him that.

When we stopped in for the salmon Richard and Joseph were just getting back from crab fishing and gave us three bags of crab to try. It’s good! We plan to have the rest for supper.

Dad worked a lot on plumbing but there’s still a lot to do. He also finished mudding the kitchen, so now it’s ready to paint!!! The bathroom wall also got built.

A bunch of people who wouldn’t give us their names sent money with Dad to spend on our house. What a huge gift! We were able to get a cooking range and a stacked washer and dryer!!!!

No more weekly runs to the laundromat with oodles of laundry and two children and the phone ringing about puppies.

Andy also got a hot water heater he found on Craigslist. 50 gallon!!!!!!! I’m feeling so spoiled.

The one here in the motorhome is a three gallon tank and I hate taking showers because there is never enough hot water to keep it running and the shower is promptly over about five minutes later when the hot water runs out.

Now we will have a TUB and fifty gallons of hot water! I plan to take full advantage of it.

We are still waiting on our ceiling insulation to come from Seattle. First they said it should get here last week, then they said maybe a couple more weeks. Who knows. It’s Alaska.

Thursday evening we drove the motorhome to Anchorage with mom and dad and Silas. We found some dry ice for their fish and parked for the night at Cabela’s.

Slept till four, then drove them to the airport. They flew out at six. We’ll really miss them! At the same time, it’s good to just be us after a super frantic three weeks since the accident.

We went back to bed after the airport run and then went to Lowes after breakfast. Andy spent 3 hours in there and came out with only two bags. Pex fittings. They are almost a curse word when you are shopping for them.

Plumbing takes so much figuring out if you haven’t done much of it before, and then you go home and realize you need a couple more clamps/elbows etc and you have to run in to town again.

So we are finally getting within an hour and a half of home. We did take a scenic detour to check out the town of Hope on the way home from Anchorage.

It is only a few cabins sitting on the edge of the bay. Really pretty back there. We’ve been wanting to see what’s back that road for a while, but whenever we go to Anchorage it seems like we’re trying to get someone to the airport on time, or on the way back it’s the middle of the night.

A cabin in Hope, Alaska.

Okay, time for me to sign off.

Have a great weekend!
