It is so wonderful to have Andy home again! The ten days he was gone driving up the truck and trailer felt very long and lonely even though I tried to keep myself busy. We exchanged some emails during his trek through Canada since he didn’t have phone service but could get WiFi periodically. It reminded me a little of the dating days where we spoke our appreciation of each other more. I want to do that more even when he’s here, and there’s nothing like having him gone for over a week to make me appreciate all he does around here!
Andy pulled in around 11:30 AM on Saturday and I laid the baby down and ran out to greet him. I hadn’t cried while he was gone, but I did when he got back! It was such a relief to have him home. He brought roses for my birthday, but the best gift was having him home.
When we came inside Gabe said, “Mommy, why is your face all red?”
“I was crying because I’m so happy Daddy is home,” I replied.
“But Mom, you don’t need to cry when you’re happy!”
Well sometimes I just do anyway.
It sounds like it was quite the trip, with temperatures negative 35-50 degrees Fahrenheit all through Canada. Andy said he didn’t turn off the truck for five days straight because he was afraid if he did it wouldn’t turn back on! He and Tyler just slept in the truck along the road when they would stop in the night to take a break.
They had six flat tires on the trailer throughout the trip and diesel costs soared above $7 per gallon in the Yukon, so the trip did turn out more expensive than we originally thought. Isn’t that usually the way of things? 😉
We are really enjoying being all together again and having Andy back. It’s not an experience I want to repeat anytime soon.
