As I write we are currently house sitting for another family from church 1 1/2 hours away from our cabin in Anchor Point.
Why do we keep uprooting and dragging stuff, dogs, and children to someone else’s house for a few weeks your may ask?
Several reasons.
It’s fun to live in a different house free of charge and experience different lifestyles.
This place is close to church, close to town, and close to work. That’s a fun change!
It also saves us money to house sit. Since we aren’t running our generator or driving so far, our gas bill gets cut dramatically.
And there’s also joy in helping out a friend.
Paul and Jo Weaver went to visit family in the lower 48 for a few weeks, and needed someone to keep their dogs, chickens, and greenhouse plants alive. Since we seem to be known as the couple who doesn’t mind house sitting, they asked us if we wanted to move in to keep the fire going and do their chores. After giving it some thought (we really do get behind on work at home during these excursions!) we said “Sure!”
There are cons to house sitting also. Little things, like not being able to find utensils when cooking. (I still can’t find a cutting board anywhere in this house!) Or bigger things like not being able to sleep the first night especially because it’s cold and we’re not used to big rambling houses that don’t heat up quickly.
But all of it keeps us flexible and keeps life interesting and makes us love and adore our little cabin where everything is where it’s supposed to be and there are trash cans and tissue boxes in handy places.
So we’ll enjoy the convenience of being up here in Sterling for the next three weeks, and then we’ll move back to Anchor Point with a whole new appreciation for home.
