There are those who look at us and think we are poor. We live in an unfinished cabin in the Alaskan wilds (haha), and we don’t even have cupboards or flooring or a toilet that flushes. Horrors!
I think contentment and perspectives on your life and others lives really depend on who you compare yourself to.
The sentences below have always been a good perspective adjustment for me to realize just how wealthy I really am.
“If you have food in your fridge, clothes on your back, a roof over your head and a place to sleep you are richer than 75% of the world.
If you have money in the bank, your wallet, and some spare change you are among the top 8% of the world’s wealthy.
If you woke up this morning with more health than illness you are more blessed than the million people who will not survive this week.
If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the agony of imprisonment or torture, or the horrible pangs of starvation you are luckier than 500 million people alive and suffering.
If you can read this message you are more fortunate than 3 billion people in the world who cannot read it at all.”
And most important of all, I have Jesus and the hope of eternity with Him.
When I look at my life and put my priorities where they need to be, there is really nothing, absolutely nothing, to complain about.
Its convicting.
I so appreciate your post! I think we would all live life a bit differently if we could fully grasp how blessed we are and how poverty stricken others are!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I enjoy reading what you have to say.
