Andy had his surgery on Thursday afternoon and got plates and 23 screws put in his hip to hold all the pieces together. He was pretty tired and loopy that evening, but it sure was good to see him again after a long 3 1/2 hours of waiting through the surgery.
The next morning, Friday, the nurse brought in a walker and Andy stood on his good leg for a few minutes, even hobbling out into the hall a little. Praise the Lord!!
He isn’t allowed to put any weight on his left foot for 12 weeks, but he started using crutches that day and got better and better at getting around.
The Surgeon came and talked with us and said we could probably go home Saturday!
Andy’s sister Elaine came to visit Friday afternoon and Matts brought the children for a couple hours. It was so good to see them again!!
Saturday they discharged Andy around 11 after lots of instructions about his 6 different meds. He also has to give himself a shot every day to prevent blood clots.
I found crutches and a walker at Goodwill, so Andy can get around decently well. He needs help getting dressed and undressed and using the bathroom, but has figured out how to sit and stand without help.
We are now home all together again. Church people and neighbors have been great about bringing meals and flowers, and now we’re just trying to catch up on some of our lost sleep even when the children DON’T TAKE NAPS!
We are both so thankful that it wasn’t worse than it was. He could have broken his neck or hurt his spine, but instead he is somewhat mobile with the promise of being able to walk again in three months. God is good!
