Alaska Seasons

I can tell Fall is getting closer. It now gets dark at 8:30 – 9:00 PM and doesn’t get light until 7-8 AM. I welcome the darkness. It is like a long lost friend.

Our creek is chock full of Pink Salmon who have fought their way almost five miles from the ocean to spawn. They aren’t any good to eat by the time they get to our place, but it sure is fun to look down the creek and see it full of thrashing tails.

Honestly, we missed summer a little bit. Not the 90 degree humid days, but the evenings when it would cool down and the cicadas and lightening bugs were out in force.

I missed garden produce, especially sweet corn and watermelon. And tomatoes. Store bought tomatoes do not taste the same!

But all in all it has been a really good, stretching summer. To be on our own learning new skills and making our place in this world.

Maybe next year we’ll be able to make a homestead here instead of just building a house. We are already talking about all the animals we want to have on our little farm. 🙂
